“Far Apart”

Now that you’re gone,
I’m having trouble moving on,
Every night I pray,
For you to come back to stay,
You changed my life,
And showed me the brighter light,
Your smile,
And that hat,
Always willing to chat,
About anything,
And everything.

But now that you’re gone,
I’m having trouble moving on,
I just want to talk to you,
And ask you,
What I’m supposed to do,
I’m lost without you hun,
And my world feels like it’s coming undone,
You were my best friend,
There through all those twists and bends.

But now you’re gone,
And I’m really having trouble moving on,
I miss you darling,
And I can’t help crying,
I know this isn’t goodbye,
So I’m going to try,
I know I will see you soon,
So until then,
I will remember you,
And I just want you to know,
You will be forever in my heart,
And I promise you,
We will never be far apart.

“Have you ever Wondered”

Have you ever wondered, how bees take nectar and make it into honey,
How trees are made into paper, and paper into money.
How your body makes you sneeze,
And how we can feel, but can’t see a breeze.
How the sun is so far away, yet we feel the heat,
How we can be so full and in a short while we need to eat.
How our brains function, and we just get up and walk,
How are tongue is what allows us to talk.
How a little bird knows how to fly when it leaves the nest,
How our bodies are so active, and suddenly we need to rest.
How we lay down at night, and put ourselves to sleep,
How dreams are allowed in our minds to creep.
How part of the brain says sleep, go on out,
How the other part of the brain tells our organs to move about.
How our emotions are stirred and we can cry,
How we suddenly become happy and the tears are dried.
How we seem to be ‘oh so fine,’
And instantly we can be half out of our mind.
How one day you have a friend, and one day you don’t,
How sometimes people help you, and sometimes they won’t.
How geese can realize and to the south they fly,
How by hands of a clock moving, time goes by.
How fingernails seem to grow from under the skin,
How peace is said to come from within.
How we plant grain, and harvest corn,
How some babies are hatched and others are born.
If you have ever wondered and asked why,
The answer lies alone with the Maker in the sky.
Just wondering….Have you ever wondered?

“True story of a Real Man”

A man that made an impression on strangers and friends.
Quiet but firm and even more stern.
Strength and courage I have learned from you, but being without you is hard to do.
A man with pride in every step he made.
A man with vigor in every phrase.

The tears I’ve shed cannot surpass the smiles and the laughs we had with you.
To feel your pain I could not do, to feel your joy I cannot explain, but being without is hard to do.
A man with pride in every step he made.
A man with vigor in every phrase.

A man that defined the word grand as only a real man can.
To know you’re in a better place soothes my pain.
Knowing you’re watching over me makes me sane.
A man with pride in every step he made.
A man with vigor in every phrase.

A true story of a real man, who in the end held his family together as only a real man can.
My grandfather, a man with poise.
You were a husband, father, uncle, cousin, grandfather, friend, and the epitome of a real man.

“Moonlight Ride”

In the still of a warm summer’s night,
I venture towards the barn with saddle in hand.
Stirrups dangle and clang with no one in sight,
I blissfully tack up my steed for a moonlight ride.

We glide together through sweet smelling meadows,
Not a care in the world only smiles.
Guided by the moon’s light and shadows,
We quickly move up the hill for another view.

Wind in our hair and sparks in our stride,
We fly through the hilltop’s water mists.
There’s nothing like this but pride.
Our backs to city lights, the other view,

We find calmness of the trail.
A warm summer breeze upon us,
We see a mother and her quail.
The barn in sight, we pick up speed.

Laughter is in the air,
What a ride it’s been,
And we race on without a care.
We proudly halt, and walk into the barn.

“Calms and Treasures”

Once I put a shell in my mouth and pressed its smooth roundness against my tongue/I tasted the salty, sand-gritty goodness of it, a little cylinder that linked earth and sea/This was in another life though, when I was the daughter of a fisherman/When the hair hanging over my shoulders was dark and always loose and jumbled/combed by the careless green fingers of the Atlantic wind/
In those days my hands were lean and brown from constantly raking the sand in search of/clams and treasures/My toes knew the feel of earth that gave way in thousands of miniature, grainy avalanches/reformed with each step/My throat was full of laughter then, and my apron of seashells, tiny abandoned homes/to be sorted and examined, some pressed to curious ears, some kept in boxes on dressers/I remember it so well/Now, today, I need only to taste salt, the faintest touch of a saline world against my lips and I am/there again/If only we could choose where our souls land each time/But they are tossed as recklessly as shells upon the shore

“The Wonder of Nature”

Nature’s Wonders

The wonders of nature bring into full bloom
It’s colors and signs of seasonal bliss
It draws the heart toward it’s vividful views
And unto the things that it should not miss

It’s creatures that are drawn out from their dens
Bring warmful views to the earth once more
That they would grow and produce in a thriving state
In abundance of all it’s galore

“Oh, My Friend”

O, my friend,
What fitting word can I say?
You, my chum,
My companion of infinite talks,
My inspiration,
My guide,
Through whom I saw myself at best;
You, the light of this western country.
You, a great richness.
A glory,
A charm,
Product and treasure of these States.

Bill, I knew you had gone.
I was walking down into town this morning,
And amid the hurry of cars and the flash of this July sun,
You came to me.
At least the intimation came to me;
And may it be you,
That somewhere I can laugh and talk long hours with you again.

“Friendship”

When we were idlers with the loitering rills,
The need of human love we little noted:
Our love was nature; and the peace that floated
On the white mist, and dwelt upon the hills,
To sweet accord subdued our wayward wills:
One soul was ours, one mind, one heart devoted,
That, wisely doting, ask’d not why it doted,
And ours the unknown joy, which knowing kills.
But now I find how dear thou wert to me;
That man is more than half of nature’s treasure,
Of that fair beauty which no eye can see,
Of that sweet music which no ear can measure;
And now the streams may sing for others’ pleasure,
The hills sleep on in their eternity

“A Time To Talk”

When a friend calls to me from the road
And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don’t stand still and look around
On all the hills I haven’t hoed,
And shout from where I am, What is it?
No, not as there is a time to talk.
I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,
Blade-end up and five feet tall,
And plod: I go up to the stone wall
For a friendly visit.

“A Dream Within a Dream”

Take this kiss upon thy brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow—
You are not wrong, to deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand—
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep—while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
